It’s 1) Its a great outlet. Kids need extracurricular outlets from the stress in their lives to exercise, relax, and enjoy the company of others. Its crucial for their psychological, social, and fitness development. The only difference between parents and kids, is that parents have MORE stress and a greater need for an outlet to keep a healthy psychological, social, and fitness lifestyle. If you don’t take time for yourself, the daily grind of school, practice, work, finances, etc., can burn you out. League sports are a great outlet to re-energize yourself and come back to your family, friends, and work a happier, healthier, more productive and rejuvenated person.
2)Its great exercise. Exercise is key to a healthy life style. Many adult customers have shared how they have lost substantial weight , gained muscle in all the right places, and felt more energetic in their daily routine, just by playing a soccer game once a week for 40 minutes. Because of the varying intensities in which you run during a soccer game, you burn fat at twice the rate then you would if you went for a jog in the same timeframe.
3)Convenient times to play: Most parents have a pretty busy schedule. Game times are offered on weekday evenings. And as opposed to other forms of exercise, this only takes 40 minutes (with 80 minutes worth of results). Most parents are able to fit it in even during the busy outdoor season.
4) You can bring the kids! Playmakers is a safe family friendly environment. For kids too young to be left alone, Playmakers provides babysitting for $3 per child with advanced notice.
5) It’s a great social atmosphere. Now that Playmakers provides beer, it’s the perfect atmosphere to sit down and hang out after the game and have a cold one with some friends.
6) It’s your skill level! Most youth parents join either the Womens Fun and Frolic league, the Coed rec league, or the JFK Open Over 30 league. What makes these leagues perfect for parents of youth players is that they are “No Contact”, and the emphasis is on fun. The Womens Fun & Frolic is designed for beginner/intermediate women, is no contact, no score is kept, and there are no playoffs. If you’ve never played before and would probably be bad at it, this is the league for you. The Coed Rec League is a minimum of 3 women on the field at all times, no contact, score is kept, but there are no playoffs. The JFK League is players over 30 years old only, no contact, but score is kept, and there are playoffs. We also have other competitive leagues, but these 3 seem to fit best with the needs of youth parents.
7) It keeps you young! You know they say, “you don’t stop playing cause you get old, you get old because you stop playing.”
