7 Reason Why Youth Parent Should Play Soccer Too!
Monday, January 02, 2012 3:55:13 PM
It’s 1) Its a great outlet. Kids need extracurricular outlets from the stress in their lives to exercise, relax, and enjoy the company of others. Its crucial for their psychological, social, and fitness development. The only difference between parents and kids, is that parents have MORE stress and a greater need for an outlet to keep a healthy psychological, social, and fitness lifestyle. If you don’t take time for yourself, the daily grind of school, practice, work, finances, etc., can burn you out. League sports are a great outlet to re-energize yourself and come back to your family, friends, and work a happier, healthier, more productive and rejuvenated person. 2)Its great exercise. Exercise is key to a healthy life style. Many adult customers have shared how they have lost substantial weight , gained muscle in all the right places, and felt more energetic in their daily routine, just by playing a soccer game once a week for 40 minutes. Because of the varying intensities in which you run during a soccer game, you burn fat at twice the rate then you would if you went for a jog in the same timeframe. 3)Convenient times to play: Most parents have a pretty busy schedule. Game times are offered on weekday evenings. And as opposed to other forms of exercise, this only takes 40 minutes (with 80 minutes worth of results). Most parents are able to fit it in even during the busy outdoor season. 4) You can bring the kids! Playmakers is a safe family friendly environment. For kids too young to be left alone, Playmakers provides babysitting for $3 per child with advanced notice. 5) It’s a great social atmosphere. Now that Playmakers provides beer, it’s the perfect atmosphere to sit down and hang out after the game and have a cold one with some friends. 6) It’s your skill level! Most youth parents join either the Womens Fun and Frolic league, the Coed rec league, or the JFK Open Over 30 league. What makes these leagues perfect for parents of youth players is that they are “No Contact”, and the emphasis is on fun. The Womens Fun & Frolic is designed for beginner/intermediate women, is no contact, no score is kept, and there are no playoffs. If you’ve never played before and would probably be bad at it, this is the league for you. The Coed Rec League is a minimum of 3 women on the field at all times, no contact, score is kept, but there are no playoffs. The JFK League is players over 30 years old only, no contact, but score is kept, and there are playoffs. We also have other competitive leagues, but these 3 seem to fit best with the needs of youth parents. 7) It keeps you young! You know they say, “you don’t stop playing cause you get old, you get old because you stop playing.”

Why Play Indoor Soccer This Summer?
Thursday, May 19, 2011 5:44:32 PM
Why Play Indoor Soccer?
Fitness Indoor soccer develops three fitness systems: (a) the ATP (Adenosine Tri Phosphate) System for short bursts of speed and power: (b) fire lactic acid system for intermediate power, and (c) the aerobic system for endurance. Indoor soccer utilizes all three systems to a high degree, thereby providing a well-rounded program of fitness development. You will get in shape quicker and lose weight quicker then if you spent the same amount time running. Coordination, Balance & Agility The various situational and positional challenges in indoor soccer encompass eye to foot, thigh, chest, head and hand coordination (for goalkeepers). There is no other sport with this range of coordination components. In addition, split second adjustments in body position put great pressure and emphasis on the development of excellent balance and agility. Skill
No sport uses as many of the body's parts in direct contact with the ball as indoor soccer. Furthermore, these areas can be used in many different ways with an endless permutation of effects. In indoor soccer, players receive many touches on the ball. And as any good soccer coach knows, more touches means better skill. Intelligence There are few sports with as many variables as indoor soccer. Firstly, it is an almost totally fluid sport with very few preplanned situations, therefore, nearly all actions depend on constantly changing circumstances, Secondly, there are 6 opponents and 5 team mates to be taken into account at all times. Thirdly, players must react to stimuli from all angles because indoor is one of the truly 360 degree games. Fourthly, players are subjected to numerous visual, sensual and audial cues during play. Character development
One of indoor soccer's major benefits to the player is the development of important character traits for life. Qualities of perseverance, application, drive, leadership, controlled aggression, concentration, teamwork, self worth and confidence are all developed by indoor soccer. Social skills Indoor soccer both attracts and helps develop extrovert characteristics. It is beneficial in improving social skills in an environment where individuals are interacting under both high pressure (during game) and low pressure (after game) conditions. Meeting people
The indoor soccer game is a group meeting place. Both players and spectators utilize the game for socialization purposes. Nowhere is this more evident than indoor soccer where players enjoy coed, men's, women's or youth soccer in conditions very conducive to socialization. No physical elitism The physical requirements of an indoor soccer game allows individuals of all shapes, sizes and genetic characteristics to develop excellence and become a valuable team member at elite levels of competition. You do not have to be 280 lb. or 6'8" tall to achieve professional soccer status. This is because leg and foot coordination is the major factor, therefore, even the smaller player can participate on an equal basis with bigger stronger individuals. Constant action By nature indoor soccer is a game of constant action with very few breaks in play. This keeps both the player and spectator totally entertained, captive and absorbed for a long period of time. Easy to understand The objectives and rules of indoor soccer are simple. The object is to score in the opponent's goal and stop them scoring in yours, with a ball that can be propelled in any direction at any time. This is a concept even the very young can understand, thereby making earlier participation possible in organized indoor soccer programs than in other team sports. Large age span Playmakers Indoor Sports offers programs for ages 18 months and up. It is also suited to the older player because of the free substitution rule. Safety Indoor soccer involves mild physical contact. Excessive contact is penalized within the rules and slide tackling is not allowed in many facilities including ours. Therefore, contact injuries are minimized and tend to be less severe. The low incidence of injury provides the ideal forum for lifetime participation and allows the more mature or less fit individual to participate for a greater length of time. Climate controlled comfort & smooth surface In a climate ranging from 100 degree summer days to -20 degree winter nights, through weather such as wind, rain, sleet, snow, humidity and field surfaces that are icy, muddy, rock hard, or bumpy. It is easy to see why a climate controlled indoor facility with nice turf is becoming more attractive to play on plus there are no rain outs. The ball stays in play The ball is contained by the dasher boards and netting so no time is wasted on chasing the wild pass, shot or clearance. Therefore, players enjoy more ball and breaks in the action are few. Ongoing development and motivation For players with college or professional ambitions indoor soccer provides a place to play and practice so that their skills improve rather than erode during the winter and summer months. Furthermore, players are motivated by the game situation, especially more prestigious competitions such as the North American Indoor Soccer Championship.

Intense Matchup Pefect End for Youth NFL Flag!
Tuesday, April 12, 2011 6:47:42 PM
It was how it was suppose to be. The two teams with the best records made it to the final game. The Championship. It was the rubber match. The Ravens thumped the Bears in week two 39-6. The following week the Bears mauled the Ravens 44-0. Everyone knew the game would be close. Both coaches tried to make adjustments based on the previous meetings. In the end the Bears, led By Owen Moon and team MVP Logan Brown, prevailed 26-20. After the game, Bears Coach Tom Calvert said, "We feel very fortunate to win. We played an excellent Raider team earlier in the day who could have easily won the game but for a great play by Stuckey and Brown. I knew the Ravens and Coach Flood would make adjustments and the adjustments he made stymied our offense and defense. Once again, we won the game due to our team’s commitment to winning as well as the hard work all season. Hanson Stuckey's speed allowed us to keep the Ravens a little off balance. We are very happy to win and we had a lot of fun"
Coach Herb Flood also felt good about the season, “I’m proud of the effort put forth by my Ravens. These are 9 and 10 year old kids who learned a ‘no-huddle’ passing offense with multiple formations having multiple audibles called at the line of scrimmage. From day one they executed [the offense] to perfection with absolutely no confusion. Our quarterback (Christopher Flood) did a great job with reading the defense and delivering the ball on target. He made a number of throws that were absolutely perfect! And JR Chou and JP Sutherland both made several circus-type catches…the kind of catches that kids their age just cannot make…but they did! I was really proud of our kids after the game.” Congratulations to both teams on a great season! Register today for the next NFL Youth flag league!
